A. Daniel Skepple, Jr

Music Director: Mission Hill Brass

Daniel Skepple was born in St. John’s, Antigua, and grew up in Kingston, Ontario, where his parents were educators at Queen’s University and St. Lawrence College. Daniel attended the KingstonCitadel Corps of the Salvation Army where he developed his love and passion for music and cornet under the influence of Kenneth R. Moore, former Director of Music with the Canadian Forces and the RCMP Band. He also came under the influence of legendary Salvation Army Bandmaster, Jack Green of Belleville, Ontario, and Albert Probert of the Vimy Band during his high school years.

Daniel is a 1983 graduate of the University of Ottawa with a degree in English with a minor in Applied Music and studied with Robert Oades and Eric Rupp while at the University Ottawa. Daniel is also a proud alumnus of the Ceremonial Guard Band. After graduation Daniel successfully auditioned for the Canadian military as a musician, first posted to the Canadian Forces School of Music in Victoria, British Columbia, and was eventually posted to his hometown band, the Canadian Forces Vimy Band in 1987, where he was a featured soloist and Compere with the band for 8 years.

Daniel has played with numerous Salvation Army bands, community brass and concert bands and orchestras in Canada and was also the Divisional Director of Music for the Salvation Army in Cleveland, Ohio, where he led the NEOSA Youth Band. Shortly after moving to Edmonton in 2000, he became a member of Millcreek Colliery Band for two years and returned to the band in 2006 for a second tour. Daniel is currently a member of the Edmonton Temple Band of the Salvation Army.

Daniel and Dr. Gordon Russell founded Mission Hill Brass in 2005 and currently Daniel is serving as Director of Music.
